The Yamanee Project
The Yamanee project is a multi-story, mixed-use condominium building proposed for the corner of 25th and J streets in midtown. The project proponents envision a 15 story building with both residential and retail space. The Ground floor and mezzanine will house commercial storefronts and upper floors will provide 134 for-sale residential units.

Preservation Sacramento opposes this project at 15 stories and 178 feet due to the significant deviation from the General Plan and Zoning Code related to height and Floor Area Ratio (FAR). Preservation Sacramento has supported expanded housing opportunities since 1972, but not by creating precedent-setting decisions that risk neighborhoods and encourage land speculation.
The General Plan was designed as, and remains an effective framework for future growth. There is no reason to deviate so significantly based on a perceived housing need in Midtown. Housing is desperately needed downtown, which is overshadowed by the proposed Yamanee project. Preservation Sacramento has consistently supported builders with good track records who propose quality infill on vacant lots. These projects demonstrate effective neighborhood serving infill is possible without compromising the General Plan or harming historic properties and districts. Preservation Sacramento is asking the Planning and Design Commission to reject this project and the requested deviation from the established height limit and direct the applicant to propose a project substantially consistent with the General Plan height limit of 65 feet.
