Is committed to a Sacramento where all citizens recognize the intrinsic value of historic sites and cherish them as a vital part of everyday life. We envision a Sacramento where citizens advocate for careful use of our diverse historic resources and understand the economic and social benefits of historic preservation.
Preservation Sacramento aspires to create a universal preservation ethic in the Sacramento region that prevents losing our past through neglect, ignorance, or monetary expediency. We will strive to remind Sacramentans throughout the region of the value of our shared past, the ways in which is enriches our lives, and the irreplaceable legacy it provides our children.
Preservation Sacramento is dedicated to protecting Sacramento's historic places and encouraging quality urban design through advocacy, outreach, and activism.
Preservation Sacramento is a membership-based 501(c)(4) non-profit originally founded in 1972 as the Sacramento Old City Association.
Preservation Sacramento Historic Home Tour
Sacramento's Alkali Flat Neighborhood
Preservation Sacramento Ticket Booth Opens at 9:30 AM
Sunday, September 17, 2017
10 am to 4 pm
The Preservation Sacramento Historic Home Tour will be held in the Alkali Flat neighborhood, which contains the City of Sacramento’s first residential historic district to be listed on the National Register of Historic Places (1984). Alkali Flat is bounded by the Southern Pacific railroad tracks, 7th, I, and 12th streets. The district remains a highly cohesive collection of 19th century residential buildings. Alkali Flat’s earliest and most important surviving buildings are contained within the historic district, but there are many significant buildings and recently competed infill projects surrounding the district that will be interesting for attendees of the 2017 Home Tour!

Make a Donation to Preservation Sacramento
Your donations are a critical part of Preservation Sacramento. Donations allow us to explain our mission to our partners throughout Sacramento by hosting events and workshops. We also use funds donated to Preservation Sacramento to produce marketing materials and generate literature that helps explain the benefits of historic preservation to a wider audience. One of our primary functions is to sponsor surveys of historic districts in Sacramento. We are trying to commission surveys of Oak Park, Yale Avenue, Richmond Grove, 38th Street, and many others. These surveys are professional planning studies and cost thousands of dollars. We can not commission surveys to protect historic neighborhoods without your donations.
